Felony
In Indiana, a Felony charge is a serious accusation and if convicted carries a penalty of more than one year in prison. Felonies in Indiana are designated into 6 levels, with Level 1 having the worst penalties and Level 6 having the least. (Prior to 2014, Felonies were listed as Felony: A, B, C, or D)
Level 1: 20 - 40 years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines
Level 2: 10 - 30 years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines
Level 3: 3 - 16 years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines
Level 4: 2 - 12 years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines
Level 5: 1 - 6 years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines
Level 6: 6 months - 2.5 years in jail and up to $10,000 in fines
In some situations, with proper negotiation, the court may order a Level 6 to be entered as a Class A Misdemeanor.
